Discover the secrets of London

This photograph was taken in China town. Late August, it captures the different cultures and ethnic groups coming together to learn about China.  China town in London offers the public stores such as bakeries, Chinese gift shops, authentic Chinese food shops and Asian cosmetics! This black and white photograph symbolizes unity which is one of the reasons of why London is such a great City to live in or visit. This is because the people of London are all coming together to learn about their rich culture. The tourist attraction is well known for their iconic Chinese lanterns which hang up all over London’s China town. These lanterns are meant to represent the Chinese national pride and they are so beautiful to look at.

The town was first built in the 1880s when growing numbers of Chinese sailors and traders where settling in and opening their businesses in the lime house area. Their culture is one of the world’s oldest culture and we are able to know what was going on in China thousands of years ago. China is known for their ceramics are Chinese porcelain which consist of kaolin, feldspar and quartz. It is a very durable material which can last for thousands of years. They are also known for their amazing architecture and their visual art which are. Their visual art includes painting, sculpting, jade carving and calligraphy. There are many more things that the Chinese culture is known for the list can literally go on. The China town in London has all those things to offer to the citizens of London and the tourists.                                                                                                                              

                                                                

This photograph was taken in the midst of Notting Hill market. On the building is a famous art piece done by Banksy. Banksy is known for his street art about society and the world around him through his art he discusses topics such as greed and politics. The art work on the building suits Notting hill as it is one of London’s most quirky tourist attractions and they love art. Just below this art piece is an art shop. The wide shot was taken to capture the surroundings of the market and the stools and the people who have gone to shop at the market

Notting Hill is also well known for hosting the second biggest carnival in the world. It is a festival and celebration about the freedom and the emancipation of slavery. Where people dress up and watch the colourful floats go past. This event takes place annually every August and it takes place over two day Saturday is the family day and Sunday is the day for the adults to go and celebrate.

The area is also known for their stunning different coloured houses. They can represent the diversity of people who live in the area who are of different ethnicities and racial backgrounds. I really like how all the houses look good together and complement each other and it’s a reflection of how the people of Notting hill just gel together as one big happy community regardless of their background.

 

This photograph was taken at the top floor of the Tate modern photography museum. This museum was made in the year 2000. The inside of this building is an explosion of creativity and art works by very well-known artists. Every day, people there are people who are interested in photography and art come and visit for ideas and inspiration, students who studying photography and arts, tourists and it is a great family day out. It is a great place to visit as you do not have to pay but due to Covid-19 pandemic they do recommend their visitors to wear masks.

The Tate modern museum was named after Henry Tate who was and Industrialist. He had shown his 19^th century to the nation and he contributed in funding for the first ever Tate modern museum. It is one of London’s biggest tourist attraction as the museum is well known for their stunning all around 360 degree view of the City of London and its famous well known land marks. The name Tate means bright and pleasant which really is such a great description for this view that I had captured from the top floor of the Tate modern museum.

The art that they have inside of this building ranges from new to old with pieces that go back to the 16^th century. There are four branches of the Tate modern as there is one in St Ives in Cornwall, one in Liverpool, the Tate modern in London and there is the Tate Britain.

This picture was taken of an eye catching 5 star hotel on city road called the Montcalm. This hotel was built in 1973. It was named after Marquis de Montcalm and this was the commander of the French forces that was defeated by the English. Another reason London is great is because the city is good at reserving history.

 City road is well known for the world’s oldest eye hospital which is called Morfeld’s as you get out of the station on city road there is a green line on the pavement that guides you to the eye hospital. The hospital was built in 1805. It is the London Dispensary for curing diseases of the Eye and Ear, by John Cunningham Saunders and it was assisted by John Richard Farre.

London is caring city that bring many different injustices to light for example the Black lives matter movement which had taken place on the 28^th of May 2020 which had taken place outside of the US embassy building and the London marathon which helps to give as much money to charity that they can and the money that they raise also goes to maintaining the city of London. This is why London is one of the world’s best cities as the people in this city are caring and the want to look out for people’s human rights.

This picture is not a still picture, it’s shaken. This is because it captures the commotion in the picture and how the people in London are always busy. For example they could be; working, going to work, going to school shopping and many other daily life things.

This photograph was taken at Camden market in a Turkish lamp shop. In April 1965, the London borough of Camden had replaces the old metropolitan boroughs of, Holborn, Hampstead and St Pancras. The town was named after Earl Camden, Charles Pratt. This is because he had started to develop the town in 1791. Camden Market had started off as a small arts crafts fair by Dingwalls building and it was temporarily open on Sundays. Due, to its popularity the market had grown fast.

 Camden is well known for their market which caters to different demographics and it is one of the world’s most famous markets. Like Notting hill they sell things that come from different cultures and the items that they are selling are artsy and full off creativity. The secret to London being one of the best cities could be the embracement that the city shows towards the different cultures within the city. They sell things such as vintage clothes, delicious food from all around the world and antiques.

Camden is also known for their style. Quirky to plain and punk rock and more styles. There is a place for everyone to fit in, in Camden. The town is also known for being the town of goths. Goth is a subculture which had started the United Kingdom at the start of the 1880s. This subculture was made by the fans of gothic rock and there are plenty of stores in Camden that cater to that audience so when you visit Camden town look out for the goths.
